Yeah I'm sorry if I haven't posted anything in a while because in Indonesia there's a thing called National Test and I was studying the whole time that I don't have any time for anime. Although I got like 9 anime to watch last season and here's my top three anime of the Winter season before we move on to this season.
3. THE PROMISED NEVERLAND
Even if I haven't finish it, this is one of the most gripping horror anime and the closest thing anime got into being scary without being gross out.
2. WATASHI TENSHI GA MAYOITA
Easily my biggest guilty pleasure and I said that because the first two episode were trash. But, the anime gotten better and the last episode do made me cried because of the play they staged in
1. KAGUYA-SAMA: LOVE IS WAR
The best anime of the year, there I said it. I'm going to talk about why is that but for now I just say that this is the best A1 anime since...Your Lie In April.
So that's for the Winter, now let's check out this season for anime.
After the test season ended and waiting for my graduation, I'm stuck between two options. 1) Study for SAT and hope to god that I can be in the most progressive university because I want to transition so badly then get scholarship outside this country, or 2) watching a lot of ecchi trash to forget about all of this. Naturally I chose the latter because screw everything where's my trashy shows!
NANDE KOKO NI SENSEI GA?
Reviewing an ecchi anime shows is like is like trying to reviewing a pop album. Both of those doesn't have any concept, boiler plate most of the times, but can produced some of the best experience ever. This anime is certainly one of those cases where the anime is outstandingly trash that it became quite charming?
This is just an example from the first episode of the anime. and I quote:
"Our main character found his teacher in the men's bathroom sitting at the stall where he tried his best not to be horny when he rested on her breast"
Like I said this is absolutely a trash show in the sense of the word. The animation weren't great, character designs are kinda good actually, story didn't made any sense whatsoever, and yet I can't stop myself from watching this car crash of an anime. The amount of things this anime throw to battles the common sense is genuinely hilarious and I can't wait for more travesty from this anime.
MIDARA NA AO-CHAN WA BENKYOU GA DEKINAI
Speaking of ecchi shows steps forward Horie Ao named after ahegao by her father who's hentai author lived in pervert shrine. Now this anime is actually interesting because Ao seems to have these assumption that all guys are the same since she was raised by hentai author and with her brother does the same she wanted to study hard and ditched her youth to focus on moving as far away from her dad. But you know once you're interested with someone as plain as they come, you're bound to have lewd thoughts. Such case with her and this does reminded me of Anna from Shimoneta but she's not borderline insane with her crush so I'll give this a pass.
FRUITS BASKET (2019)
Ever since I read the manga I'm in love with Fruits Basket. It's the type of romance anime that I really love the most which is the reverse harem type. Tooru Honda I thought was fantastic characters that have a lot of emotional baggage especially with the tragic past she had. So naturally I would've watch the anime but there's one thing that bugs me, is that the anime doesn't really follow the manga. So I'll wait until that happened and it turns out TMS wanna remake or reboot this anime kinda like what happened to Fullmetal Alchemist. So here we are
This anime surprisingly feel so nostalgic. this is due to the amazing animation and the colouring of the anime. I really love how TMS modernized it looks while it has that old school manga vibe with the eyes and the background surrounding it. The music especially the OP really giving us the vibes of innocence which is true to our protagonist. The OP legit sounded like mid 90's RnB with the drums and that production. This is a must watch for those who like romance anime.
ISEKAI QUARTET
This is it, this is the peak Isekai. Isekai equivalent of The Avengers where instead of the help of Nick Fury they got invited by button. This is where our four "beloved" isekai anime (Idk if Youjo Senki was beloved but still) gets transported because of the affirmation button to...yep another world this time they become a high school students...
Yeah this sounds like a shitty anime but idk to me I love assemble or crossover episode especially Avengers. So seeing the characters of Konosuba, Re:Zero, Overlord, and Youjo Senki really puts a smile to my face. So yeah this is my guilty pleasure of the year so far.
SEWAYAKI KITSUNE NO SENKO-SAN
Doga Kobo completes (?) the trifecta of anime that are suspects for FBI. Two seasons ago it was Uzamaid the anime that got worse each episodes, Wataten that's far better than it has any rights to be, and this one about 800 year-old little fox girl which is pretty decent.
This anime is so comfy beside the obvious lolicon undertone. It's the perfect iyashikei anime by definition which is a healing anime. This anime isn't perfect and the lolicon thing in the early episodes are putting me off, but it really has the potential to grew on me. ALSO THAT FLUFFY TAIL AHHHH.
CAROLE & TUESDAY
This anime impressed me so much that after the first episode I knew I would put it on my best list, so I decided to wait until it all ended. The reason is because it's one of those anime that are benefited with watching it at one piece rather than per episode. The scene where Carole and Tuesday jamming and trying their hardest to sync up to each other was already the best scene in the anime this season. I felt the raw emotions these two had and I really can't wait for more of this when I marathon the anime. Shinchiro Watanabe you've done something magical once again and we all glad to have you
....and speaking of influential anime director
SARAZANMAI
You know, being in the queer side of anime community really opened my eyes on a lot of directors, art director and queer mangaka that I've never knew last year. One of the people that has been praised a lot on that community is none other than Kunihiko Ikuhara. Now I've to be honest and say before Sarazanmai I've never seen one of his shows. But a quick look at MAL and seeing what anime he directed like bunch of Sailor Moon stuff, Revolutionary Girl Utena, Mawaru Penguindrum, and Yuri Kuma Arashi then I realized that he's one of the most influential person working on the anime industry. Without him we wouldn't have seen the likes of most magical girl shows that took a dark twist to it like Madoka Magica or Steven Universe because Rebecca Sugar has stated her influence of making that show was Utena.
And seeing this anime made me joined the hype train with stellar animation, great coming of age stories, homoeroticism, Japanese culture mixed with modern dystopian Japan with boxes of all people hiding their deepest secrets, and human desires. All of which mixed with great soundtracks, and possibly the best gay representation in anime this year, you've got yourself a recipe for best anime of the season...but it's not my favorite anime of the year.
SENRYUU SHOUJO
You know I could go on about how this anime has a great depictions of someone with communication problems, or how the romance here is cute, or how they integrated various elements of Japanese literature which as a writer I really like, or how this anime is the only short anime that I love ever. I could say all of that and more...
BUT NANAKO IS THE BIGGEST REASON WHY I LOVE THIS ANIME I MEAN JUST LOOK AT HER AHHHHHHH!!!!
HITORIBOCCHI NO MARU MARU SEIKATSU
If you're an avid reader of this serial blog, you know that I have a fondness towards moe anime. I put Yuru Camp as the best anime of the year not for any reason of course. This year we got a fair few of moe anime but it wasn't as groundbreaking as even the average moe slice of life anime of last year. But Hitoribocchi no Maru Maru Seikatsu really steps up becoming the best anime of the Spring.
I'm actually about to make a review of this anime once its done aired but for the time being I can tell you that it has one of the most relatable characters in anime ever either with our four main casts. Hitori is socially awkward, Nako is tomboy but has a sensitive side, Aru trying and failing to be cute, and Sotoka is just a weeb. The art style and animation is great too and overall a fantastic anime.
So that's it for today. Good to be back to be honest. If you enjoy this blog made sure to share it with anyone that you loves
